Free Original Pattern!
My first sweater is complete! This is a prime example of a good month’s worth of procrastination. Key word good, I love this sweater! It’s a thick virgin wool so I can use it as a light coat on a fair weather day, and I get compliments on it all of the time. I’ll admit, this is not what I started out knitting. I actually didn’t have much of a plan. I wanted to keep a symmetrical pattern on the front so it ended up longer than I meant, so I had to make the back longer by adding a panel of pattern. I think it turned out very well!
For the body I used Lion Brand Fisherman’s Wool in Nature Brown, and it took about two and half rolls. The beige wool I used for the pattern is Patons Classic Wool Yarn in Natural Mix and I used less than one spool. I used size 7 needles. The basics of this pattern are displayed in this diagram.

I knit the main pieces from bottom to top. The top of the back was knit from side to side, but could also be done as a continuation of the back if your gauge is the same for rows and stitches. The grid for the pattern is shown. The band has a width of 25 stitches. Please leave a comment if you would like to know more detail about how and where the pieces are sewn together, or any other detail I didn’t specify. I didn’t plan on making a pattern for this so it’s still under construction. Thanks for checking it out!

I love this! Oh I’d love to know your pattern notes & counts. Wonderful job!!
